The Full Story
The Freedome Center is a youth & family organization that provides afterschool programming and community services for Hammond, Indiana, Northwest Indiana, and the Chicagoland area.

Incorporated in 2010, Freedome Center has been providing schools, social service agencies, parks, youth homeless shelters, youth incarceration facilities, and community-based organizations with arts & youth leadership programming that inspires both personal and social change. Our philosophy and approach were born out of the realization that visual and performing arts can be used for more than just entertainment. We've discovered that the process of creating art is so much more important than the product itself. It is during this process that youth are empowered, communities are uplifted, and people are made aware of their ability to inspire the world to change. We are more than just an arts organization. We're intentional about creating innovative spaces and using the arts to liberate minds and change lives.

Faith & Family: We believe that strong faith and strong families build stronger communities. Everything we do is unapologetically rooted in the love of Christ and our commitment to making disciples of all nations. These services are designed to bring families together around shared values and efforts that lead to community change.

Arts & Culture: These services are designed to educate, create awareness, preserve, and celebrate a rich diversity of artistic expression. We provide opportunities for all participants to develop their artistic talents through classes and workshops focused on visual, performance, and digital media arts.

Mental Health & Wellness: These services, facilitated by a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, are designed to support the journey towards emotional well-being and overall mental wellness. We help participants navigate through life’s challenges by providing individual & family counseling, mental health awareness workshops, wellness planning, and social-emotional learning classes that help individuals, couples, families, and youth develop the skills they need to thrive.

Academic Success: These services provide students with additional learning opportunities outside of regular school hours. Our aim is to reinforce academic skills developed during the school day, support homework completion, and provide support for students struggling with proficiency.
